Too many executive coaches immediately zero in on weaknesses and spend relatively little time developing existing strengths. There are two problems with this approach. One is that it's simply not a lot of fun to hammer on something right out of the gate that you don't do well. You shouldn't ignore your weaknesses, but you'll have a better learning experience if you first identify and develop your strengths. The second problem is that weaknesses can usually be improved by only about 15%, whereas strengths can be improved as much as four-fold. So why not make the most progress you can as fast as you can?
